Your support of Zoobilation will advance the Abilene Zoological Society’s mission of education and preservation of wildlife and add to the fun at Abilene’s number on visitor attraction, the Abilene Zoo.

For over four decades, the Grover Nelson Park Zoological Foundation has been a leader in building the Abilene Zoo into the place it is today. The foundation is the driving force in ensuring the growth of the zoo through capital campaigns leading to hallmark exhibits such as the Giraffe Safari and the newly-opened Madagascar exhibit. But just as importantly, the foundation is instrumental behind the scenes, growing matching funds to allow for an expansion of a first-class animal hospital, building rainy-day reserves to sustain the zoo during times of uncertainty, and creating an endowment to ensure the Abilene Zoo will thrive for generations to come. Thank you for your support in advancing the future of the Abilene Zoo.

‘Wheels: An Original Musical’ centers around the lives of Nancy and Elijah, siblings who struggle with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and tells a story about faith, betrayal, and forgiveness. The story itself focuses on every characters’ innate humanity and doesn’t ever ask for the audience’s sympathies. The cyclical aspect of the title isn’t to indicate how incapable many disabled are of leading normal lives, but instead, how capable they are of leading incredible ones. Book, Music, and Lyrics by Jess Westman. An intercollegiate theatrical endeavor between HSU, ACU, & McMurry.

This masterful country stylist from Houston, Texas has been thrilling audiences for more than 50 years. Gene’s very first radio single, the self-penned 'If It’s That Easy' was released in 1962. Although the song didn’t make any radio charts, it did start the career of the man now known as 'The Singer’s Singer.' Gene Watson’s tally of 75 charted titles, 23 top-10 hits and 6 number-one records has led to membership in the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame. Radio listeners are still transfixed whenever classics like 'Farewell Party,' 'Fourteen Carat Mind' or 'Love in the Hot Afternoon' are played. The depth of emotion in his singing, his brilliant phrasing, his jaw-dropping range and the power in the lyrics he chooses are all factors in the awe he inspires in both fans and his musical peers.

(Healthy Empowerment through Arts Learning) is a program developed by The Center for Contemporary Arts, and funded by the United Way of Abilene to offer warriors an opportunity for self-expression and healing.  This program fosters trust between participants, thereby increasing their trust and confidence in themselves and others, as well as increase each warrior’s (and their family’s) scope of social networks.

Warriors often struggle with feelings of anxiety and depression due to horrific experiences in their military service.  To help warriors express and cope with emotions and build resiliency, The Center for Contemporary Arts offers arts and music therapy,

ArtHEALs uses creative methods to help veterans and active-duty personnel, both individually and as a group, address social, behavioral and emotional issues, thus helping them make sense of how they fit into their world.  Therapeutic activities include artistic expression through closed eye drawing to music, movement, creating simple clay figures.

Funding from the United Way of Abilene makes it possible for The Center to offer this program to groups at no charge.
